Adventure Medical and Solkoa offer high-quality survival kits and first aid supplies that are essential for any outdoor gear. Adventure Medical Tactical Field Trauma Kit is compact and well-equipped with a comprehensive manual, QuickClot Sport, and various medications. The kit includes wound care items, bandages, gloves, safety pins, and tweezers, making it a complete package for 1-2 day trips. With a fair price of $47 in the USA, Adventure Medical kits are highly recommended for any outdoor adventure.
One thing that should not be missing in any gear is a properly stocked survival kit and first aid supplies. Ready-made sets are plentiful, but often contain lower quality products or lack essential items. Adventure Medical offers a range of good kits that are worth a closer look, and the survival kits from Solkoa are also well-equipped. A friend of ours has acquired the Solkoa SumaPro Survival Kit (Suma PSK, on the left in the picture) and the Field Trauma Kit (on the right in the picture) and has provided them to us for review. Thanks to Brandon! Since the equipment does not belong to us, we unfortunately cannot unpack and demonstrate the items extensively, but we believe that the products speak for themselves.
The Adventure Medical Tactical Field Trauma Kit measures 17cm x 11cm x 15cm and weighs approximately 450 grams, making it the right size to fit in any kit. The bag itself is made of black Cordura and can be opened with a zipper. There are some loops on the back to securely attach the bag to a backpack or belt.
The contents also differ slightly from typical German first aid packs. The first noticeable item is the thick manual: "Guide to Wilderness & Travel Medicine". For those proficient in English, this book contains concentrated expertise and useful information for medical emergency care in remote locations.
The QuickClot Sport 25g is also not typically found in German kits but is included in this kit. Additionally, there is a selection of medications that one would usually have to assemble or supplement themselves:
1 After Bite Wipe
2 Antihistamine (Diphenhydramine 25 mg)
1 Aspirin (325 mg), Pkg./2
2 Ibuprofen (200 mg), Pkg./2
For wound care, the following items are listed:
6 After Cuts & Scrapes Anesthetic/Antiseptic Wipe
1 Dressing, Petrolatum, 3" x 3"
1 Tape, 1/2" x 10 Yards
2 Triple Antibiotic Ointment, Single Use"
The other components of the kit include bandages, gloves, safety pins, and tweezers:
4 Bandage, Adhesive, Fabric, 1" x 3"
3 Bandage, Adhesive, Fabric, Knuckle
2 Bandage, Butterfly Closure
1 Bandage, Elastic, Self Adhering, 2"
2 Dressing, Gauze, Sterile, 2" x 2", Pkg./2
2 Dressing, Gauze, Sterile, 4" x 4", Pkg./2
1 Dressing, Non-Adherent, Sterile, 3" x 4"
2 Gloves, Nitrile (Pair), Hand Wipe
2 Trauma Pad, 5" x 9"
11 Moleskin, Pre-Cut & Shaped
3 Safety Pins
1 Splinter Picker/Tick Remover Forceps
So, everything is included in one complete package, and you only need to add your personal medications to be prepared for 1-2 day trips. The kit can be purchased in the USA for $47.
CONCLUSION: A well-stocked medkit at a fair (US) price, Adventure Medical excels in putting together individual packages for every application and comes highly recommended. In addition to the Field Trauma Kit presented here, there are many other products, spanning the entire range of medicine/survival/emergency. Take a look at the manufacturer's website, and some items can also be obtained directly in Germany.
The kit is available in the USA for $47.
The second part, the Survival Kit, will be coming in the next few days.
