Canceled: No G26 for the Bundeswehr

10/10/2020By Redaktion
Germany continues to dabble: the tender for the "short-range sniper weapon (SSchtzWa kRw) G26" for special forces and military police has been canceled. The Bundeswehr wanted to procure 145 weapons. Summary of design features: A semi-automatic gas-operated loader in caliber 7.62mm x 51 NATO with adjustable gas intake in "Sniper gray". Of the competitors Haenel and Heckler & Koch, only the former was in the running here.
The CR308 from Haenel was considered to have good chances. In total, there were supposed to be five bidders in the race, two from the USA. None of the applicants met the strict technical requirements, it is said. The cancellation of the tender so shortly after the cancellation for the new assault rifle seems at least strange.
