Get in the water

Also this year, at the end of August 2026, around 50 soldiers from all branches of the Bundeswehr completed parachute training over the Schwielowsee. For two days, the Bundeswehr's Operational Command trained its soldiers as well as guest jumpers from across the Bundeswehr in parachuting into the water. The exercise, conducted in a sealed-off area of the lake, aims to keep the 50 participating parachutists in practice and partly to maintain their jump licenses. 

During the exercise, they are transported with a civilian M28 Skytruck from Berlin Gatow into the airspace over Geltow and Petzow. At an altitude of just under 500 meters, the soldiers jump from the plane and land in the Schwielowsee. Normally, parachute jumps take place from an altitude of 4,000 meters. But emergency procedures also need to be practiced, including water landings. Shortly after landing, the soldiers are picked up by inflatable boats and brought ashore.
