The US Army is seeking a new pistol after 30 years with the M9, considering calibers like .40S&W and .357SIG, and possibly even returning to .45ACP. This contrasts with US law enforcement's shift back to 9mm due to faster wear on other calibers.
The US Army is looking for a new pistol after almost 30 years with the M9, and in the process is also interested in new pistol ammunition. Particularly, calibers .40S&W and .357SIG will probably be closely examined, perhaps even a "step back" to .45ACP. It is interesting that this comes at a time when US law enforcement agencies are returning to 9mm, as pistols in other calibers allegedly wear out noticeably faster under US law enforcement shooting conditions.
