HELSING is producing 6000 HX-2 combat drones for Ukraine. This follows a previous order for 4000 combat drones, which are being manufactured with Ukrainian partners and already delivered. With the new order, HELSING becomes one of the biggest combat drone manufacturers worldwide.
The HX-2 combat drone was unveiled at the end of 2024 and is an electronically powered X-Wing precision drone with a range of up to 100 km. The use of artificial intelligence makes the drone resistant to electronic warfare and interference. HELSING's reconnaissance and control software Altra enables multiple HX-2 drones to be grouped together in swarms controlled by a human operator. HX-2 was designed from the ground up for mass production, with significantly lower unit costs than conventional systems. This closes a growing capability gap in modern warfare.
HELSING has also launched the first Resilience Factory (RF-1) in southern Germany. Resilience Factories are Helsing's highly efficient production facilities that enable nation states to have local and sovereign manufacturing. Helsing will establish additional Resilience Factories at several locations in Europe, capable of producing tens of thousands of units per month in times of conflict. RF-1 initially has a monthly production capacity of 1000 HX-2 combat drones. "We have brought together Europe's smartest minds to develop the future of mass production," says Niklas Köhler, co-founder of HELSING. "Our Resilience Factories rely on software-based design and scalable production techniques. This allows us to solve complex problems with software instead of complex electronics. It enables fast production, strengthens deterrence, and protects our democracies. HX-2 is just the beginning - more products will follow this principle."
"We are increasing HX-2 production in parallel with new orders," explains Gundbert Scherf, co-founder of HELSING. "The war in Ukraine shows daily that modern, precise technology can offset numerical disadvantages compared to older systems. NATO must quickly draw the right lessons from this. With our Resilience Factories, we focus on decentralized mass production throughout Europe. This allows individual countries to produce directly on site and maintain control over production and the supply chain."
