500 HX trucks for the British Army

02/06/2024By Redaktion

Quick procurement of 500 HX trucks in the hook loading system version for the British Army - contract value around 330 million euros Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles UK (RMMV UK) has been awarded by the British Ministry of Defence to deliver 500 HX 8x8 logistics vehicles of the Palletised Load System (PLS; hook loading system) variant. The contract value is around 330 million euros (£282 million).

The contract was awarded as an urgent procurement measure within seven months of the first discussions. RMMV UK will deliver this key capability to the British Army within three months of contract award. Currently, 320 vehicles are being adapted to British specifications at the RMMV UK facility in Doncaster. Another 180 vehicles will be delivered by March 31, 2024. The HX PLS trucks will play a key role in supporting operations for the British Army. This includes transporting essential supplies such as ammunition, food, water, and aid to deployment locations.

Since the start of discussions, RMMV UK has been preparing for the program, establishing the Doncaster site in the UK and transporting several hundred vehicles there to ensure that the trucks will be delivered within three months of contract award. The multipurpose vehicles will continue to be built at Rheinmetall's global production facility in Vienna, facilitating swift delivery to the British Army. They will then be retrofitted at the Doncaster site to meet the agreed British specifications.

Outstanding Features of the HX

The HX truck is a backbone of NATO logistics, providing user nations with high interoperability. Currently, over 20,000 HX trucks are in operation worldwide, including in Australia and New Zealand, as well as with many European customers such as Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The additional 500 HX PLS vehicles being delivered to the British Army build on this existing fleet in operation and the current HX fleet operational in the UK.
The RMMV HX PLS truck enhances the capabilities of the British Army's original in-service logistics vehicle fleet. The next generation of HX trucks offers improved crew protection through the Integrated Armour Cabin (IAC), higher load capacity, improved powertrain, and updated electronic architecture.

The HX PLS truck can automatically load and unload up to 16.5 tons of supplies without the crew having to leave the cabin. The PLS offers a faster, easier, and safer method for transporting supplies, as well as higher interoperability with other NATO nations. MORE INFO on the HX.
