The German Army is receiving 50 new and highly advanced Puma infantry fighting vehicles (SPz). A corresponding framework contract was signed today at the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) with PSM Projekt System & Management GmbH - a joint venture of the companies Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall. Earlier, on May 10, 2023, the Budget Committee of the Bundestag approved the project.
"With the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, we are strengthening the capabilities of the German Army," emphasizes the responsible project manager at BAAINBw. The soldiers of the armored infantry will be provided with a powerful system that combines protection, effectiveness, and mobility in an excellent manner.
The framework contract signed today provides for the procurement of up to 229 Puma infantry fighting vehicles, of which initially 50 vehicles are firmly ordered. The contract also includes spare parts packages and eight flight phase simulators for the Multirole-capable Light Anti-Tank Missile System (MELLS).
These infantry fighting vehicles are a new production of the vehicles in construction stage S1. This includes, among other things, the integration of high-resolution day and night vision capable camera systems, the MELLS missile system, and the integration of a digital radio equipment.
Furthermore, a "driving school option" is included, which includes additional driving school tanks, personnel training, simulators, and a logistics package. In addition, there is an option for equipping the Turm-independent Secondary Weapon System (TSWA).
All vehicles are expected to be delivered between late 2025 and early 2027.
