The Russians seem to be modernizing old things with a new twist. The company Kurganmashzavod is modernizing the 2S18 Pat-S self-propelled howitzer, the only prototype of which was manufactured in the USSR in the 1980s. The howitzer with a caliber of 152 millimeters is intended to be mounted on a modified chassis of the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle.
“These vehicles, equipped with either a 120mm (a trial design with the lovely name 'Vienna') or a 152mm gun, can significantly increase the effectiveness of motorized infantry units,” the holding company further stated.
