After the Taliban have taken over all provinces of Afghanistan in recent months, the capital Kabul has now fallen. The president has left the country, foreign powers are hastily evacuating their embassies. 20 years after their expulsion, the radical Islamic Taliban have once again seized power.

This award-winning documentary series sheds light on the tragic history of the once-flourishing country in the Hindu Kush in four parts, from the kingdom of Afghanistan, through the Soviet war in the country, the subsequent civil war, the rise of the Taliban, and ultimately the "war" of the Americans and the role of NATO in the Hindu Kush.
