The pistol is nice and all, but the shooter can make more out of it. Lately, drop-in carbine solutions have found a big market: The pistol shooter has his pistol and adds a frame that turns it into a small carbine, onto which he can mount optics and handle it like a rifle. It doesn't make the owner a better pistol shooter, but still, it's an exciting solution that is fun to shoot. From IMI Defense comes the brand new "Kidon" Pistol Conversion Kit, but it's not listed on the manufacturer's website yet. We had - thanks to BLACK SHADOW - the first kit outside of Israel in our hands.

This is what it looks like when the Kidon breaks down into its main components. The shooter already has the Glock, the optics need to be purchased separately. The rest is the Kidon.

Let's focus on the body. This is where the pistol goes in. Almost everything is plastic, with a few small exceptions.

The focus of the body is the large openings. The gun is inserted from below. It needs the opening at the top for shell ejection.

The Kidon comes with an Angled Foregrip from IMI Defense, which we have already introduced HERE. Practical because the pistol carbine is really easy to grip with it.

Included are the Back Up Sights. In other kits, you have to buy them separately, but here they come with it.

Here is the rear sight. The extended bolt, seen here, is a safety lock for the stock, which is inserted from behind.

The charging handle is adjustable. Not all Glocks are the same. The charging handle grips the slide of both a 17 and a 19.

Once the gun is inserted, it is locked in place by a lever on the side.

The internal parts are all metal, where the bullet, gunpowder, and pressure have to go through. It also has a lateral groove in the housing, so everything stays stable during shooting.

This is how the kit comes full circle: the stock part is inserted, the bolt is pushed in. Ready.

The stock is actually a classic M4 variation. Included is a "Stock" from IMI Defense, inserted here. At the front end, you can see a long piece protruding at the bottom. This is adjusted with an Allen screw so that the Glock 17 or Glock 19 fit securely in the kit.

The whole thing fully extended.

Here is the fully assembled kit, but viewed from the other side.
