Only 17 months after the contract was signed, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Procurement yesterday took over two new, state-of-the-art medical containers from the contractor, which will be quickly delivered to the troops through the logistics of the Medical Service after the upcoming training sessions.
In total, the medical personnel will receive three new containers each for computed tomography (CT) and X-ray, partly financed from special funds. The six new containers equipped with the latest medical equipment will replace outdated facilities in the future and are all expected to be operational by the end of September 2025.
The containers are part of the so-called Modular Medical Facility, short MSE: a mobile medical treatment facility of the Bundeswehr, essentially based on a combination of medical tents and ISO containers. The MSE is the main operational system of the Medical Service, particularly in the case of national and alliance defense, and is divided into different levels. While the first two levels provide general and emergency medical initial care and stabilization as well as initial emergency surgical and internal care for the injured, the third level involves clinical acute care in the field - the deployment hospital.
In this third level, imaging and radiology come into play - the components that the new containers include. They play an essential role in the diagnosis and treatment of injured soldiers. If they are not needed in the field, they can also be used in Bundeswehr hospitals, for example, in case of equipment failure or during maintenance.
"The close collaboration between the Bundeswehr Medical Service Command, the manufacturing company, and the involved parties in the procurement office has led to the success of the project," emphasized the project manager on the occasion of the handover. "With the influx of the new, regenerated systems, we expect a noticeable improvement in the operational readiness of the Medical Service."
