40 years of endurance

Arktis Endurance Textiles Ltd. (ARKTIS for short) is celebrating 40 years of being in business, and they're sharing some great stories, and great special offers, for you to enjoy.

It all began back in 1985, when an ex-Royal Marine (Major David Ross, OBE) started a company to create an alternative to British standard-issue military gear. Having dealt with the inadequacies of British military-issued kit during his service in the Falklands, he wanted to produce gear that would be far superior, comfortable, durable and functional. Also, being based in Exeter, near the home of the Royal Marines, gave the company ready access to professional end-users who could provide timely feedback on products. Within a short period of time, Arktis was the "go-to" source for top quality, specialized, gear that fit the needs of Britains elite forces on their deployments around the globe.

In the second half of the 1990's ARKTIS also established a foothold in Europe, first with customers in the French Foreign Legion and then with the French Mountain Troops. As the company rolled into the 2000's it had also started serving the special operations forces of The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Germany. The company also expanded to provide a completely new range of specialized clothing and gear for UK Police and Emergency services.

During the second half of the company's 40-year history it also added an outdoor / country clothing offshoot to its portfolio and continued to work with specialist military and police units to create solutions specifically tailored to their operational needs - some of which would also find their way into the company's commercial offering for other customers as well. In fact, this has always been a hallmark of ARKTIS - the willingness, and ability, to work directly with end-users to provide low-volume specific solutions that can also be scaled up for larger production runs.

After changing owners a couple of more times along the way, ARKTIS today manufactures all types of specialist clothing & equipment for military units, police forces, emergency services, and outdoor enthusiasts all over the world. The company has also added the popular PenCott-GreenZone, MultiCam, and TigerStripe camouflage patterns to its portfolio. This year, the company launched a US subsidiary, ARKTIS USA, and moved their warehouse to Northern Ireland so European customers can benefit from easier order fulfillment, with lower fees and customs paperwork than ordering from mainland UK.
