The Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall with the delivery of 120mm mortar ammunition and the modernization of mortar weapon systems. This results in a total order volume of around 27 million euros gross, which has already been booked at the end of 2021.
Rheinmetall is modernizing the 120mm mortars of the Bundeswehr so that they can fire the new generation (NG) mortar ammunition. As part of the modernization, which is expected to be completed by 2023, the barrels will be equipped with liner rings.
As part of this commission, Rheinmetall has already delivered multispectral smoke mortar cartridges DM75 NG and infrared illuminating mortar cartridges DM56 NG to the Bundeswehr in 2021.
Rheinmetall has extensive capabilities in the field of indirect fire and offers a complete portfolio of mortar ammunition families in calibers 120mm, 81mm, and 60mm. This includes fire control systems and mortar weapons, such as the 120mm mortar weapon system Ragnarök or the innovative 60mm mortar RSG60 introduced in 2019.
