Maximum strength and endurance

07/05/2013By Redaktion

The Kettlebell challenges the whole man. That's why more and more men are turning to this tough way of training. Kettlebells have a (forgotten) history with us as well, but with the ex-Spetsnaz Pavel Tsatsouline, they have resurfaced in the West. Harald Pachler swings them in southern Austria. We wanted to know from him what the magic of the cannonballs with handles is.

SPARTANAT: You want to bring Russian Kettlebell swinging to Austria. Why?

Harald Pachler: We want to bring Kettlebell training according to Pavel Tsatsouline to Austria because of its effectiveness in strengthening the entire body.

The training is suitable for every man and woman, and it is a good complement to other sporting activities! Additionally, training with the Kettlebell boosts performance in various sports. This is mainly due to the explosively executed, ballistic exercises. Through the constant switch between tension and relaxation. This training method has proven very effective, which is why it is important to me to teach people how to handle the Kettlebell!

SPARTANAT: Pavel Tsatsouline was a Russian Spetsnaz. What is the advantage of swinging cannonballs for military training?

Harald Pachler: Training with the Kettlebell not only builds strength but also endurance. In addition, training with the Kettlebell also improves flexibility and coordination.

This point is particularly important for soldiers. Because with little time and a few exercises, one can achieve a maximum of endurance and strength. It also achieves a high level of stability and flexibility. Because a soldier has a lot of physical work to do. Whether it's marching with heavy gear and weapons in difficult terrain, or demanding combat operations over an extended period.

And this is where training with the Kettlebell comes in. Performance remains high for a long time, training with the kettlebell simply makes you tough.

SPARTANAT: What makes Kettlebell training valuable for civilians? And what should they watch out for?

Harald Pachler: In principle, the same applies to civilian training as to military training.

Before starting Kettlebell training, it is essential to be supervised by a certified trainer. Professional supervision is especially important for beginners. Because the risk of injury without expert guidance is very high! I would recommend everyone to attend at least one "Enter the Kettlebell" seminar! Because that's where you learn the most important basic exercises!

Training with Kettlebells is primarily an intensive movement school, through which the body is (re)programmed to learn to move the way Mother Nature intended!

The valuable advantage of Kettlebell training is achieving functional strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, body control, and overall fitness simultaneously!

SPARTANAT: How did you start training?

Harald Pachler: I was very overweight in my younger years! When I was called up for Austrian National Service, a light went on for me. From that moment on, I knew I had to change something about myself!

I struggled a lot during basic training at the Jägerbataillon 25, but I persevered, with great success for myself. Since then, I have been training a lot, watching my diet, and have become very fit in recent years.

I got into Kettlebell training four years ago. As it often happens, I read about it on the internet and watched a few videos. After that, I knew what I had to do. And since then, I have been training intensively, not only with the Kettlebell. I also do mountain biking, hiking, strength training in general, and cross-training on the side.

SPARTANAT: How many kilos do you swing?

Harald Pachler: Currently, I swing the Russian military weight standard, 24 kg! I also use it for presses and the Turkish Get Up. I do Kettlebell Deadlifts with 28kg and more.

HARALD PACHLER enlisted at the Jägerbataillon 25 in Klagenfurt after successfully completing his apprenticeship as a mechanical engineering technician. There, he completed his military service. He then worked as a mechanical engineering technician at several companies, including a well-known Austrian weapons manufacturer. He has recently become self-employed, focusing on event support. And of course, training with the Kettlebell!
