You want to remove the optic or an accessory from the weapon, and the screwing starts - and what comes out in the end? Optics misaligned, rail scratched in the worst case, and definitely precious time wasted. Is there no solution for this? Yes, from the
Kinetic Development Group! Today we introduce you to a few selected mounts from the company.
We tested: KINECT M-LOK Harris Bipod Extended Mount, KINECT MLOK 3 Slot Mount, SIDELOK Aimpoint Micro Absolute Co-Witness, and SIDELOK Modular Scope Mount.
Kinetic Development Group, or KDG for short, has become known for accessories for the FN SCAR. The company offers buttstocks, handguards, charging handles, safety levers, and sling attachments as upgrades for the rifle. KDG made headlines when the SIDELOK mount for the Aimpoint Micro was released. There is now a whole series of SIDELOK mounts and also KINECT mounts for the M-LOK system, here is our modest selection.
KINECT
Under the name KINECT, there are mounting solutions specifically designed for M-LOK rails, so to all Keymod users: stop reading here and come back later at SIDELOK :).
The KINECT mounts from KDG work as follows: The module is first tensioned by pressing buttons on the side. Then insert it into one or more M-LOK slots (depending on the mount). When inserting, pressure points on the inside release the spring tension, and the mount is locked in the slot/s. To remove, the side buttons need to be pressed again.
Available mounts are: 3 Slot Picatinny, 7 Slot Picatinny, Universal Offset 3 Slot, QD Swivel, and Harris Bipod.

They are designed to work with all M-LOK rails from various manufacturers, although KDG only guarantees functionality with rails from 0.80" to .150". In plain language, this means: No problems with 99% of aluminum M-LOK rails, but those with a polymer handguard should double-check. We tested all modules on several handguards from Geissele, no issues there.
Finding an application on an AR-15, for example, the Harris Bipod mount requires 2 slots on the M-LOK rail - Ideally, the bipod is mounted as far forward as possible.
Connecting the mount to the bipod is done the same way as with all other Harris-style mounts: The pin on the mount is gripped and tightened by the Harris.
This solution is particularly appealing to us, as it allows a rifle to be perfectly converted from dynamic use without a bipod to static work with a bipod in seconds. You retain the slim M-LOK profile and don't add a single gram of unnecessary weight to the gun, as long as it's not needed.
The Harris mount is 95mm long, 20.9mm wide, and projects 10.5mm above the M-LOK rail. It weighs 51 grams. It fits all Harris-style bipods.
SIDELOK
The SIDELOK mounts from KDG are available for reflex sights and scopes. The operating principle is similar to KINECT: The mount is tensioned with a button, then rolled laterally onto the Picatinny rail. Clamping jaws fix the mount on the rail, released again by a pressure point on the inside.
Available mounts are: Trijicon RMR Low, Trijicon RMR Absolute Co-Witness, Aimpoint Micro Lower 1/3 Co-Witness, Aimpoint Micro Absolute Co-Witness, Trijicon MRO Lower 1/3 Co-Witness, Picatinny Riser, Aimpoint Patrol Optic/Comp M4, and Modular Scope Mount with 30mm, 34mm, or 1" rings.

Here you see the Aimpoint Micro Absolute Co-Witness mount on an AR-15. With a length of 71.8mm, the mount is quite long, but that only matters on paper: In reality, it's the button that matters, and it extends beyond the connection of the upper and handguard.
The sight can thus be easily placed at the far edge of the Picatinny rail. Another advantage of the design: All KDG red dot mounts are forward biased. This means the optic is moved further away from the shooter without having to rely on the handguard (only relevant for systems with a non-continuous Picatinny rail).
Due to the absence of mounting levers that other mounts have, the width of the Sidelok mount is very slim: it is only 27.9mm wide. The height is 20mm for Absolute Co-Witness. This aligns the red dot and the backup iron sights precisely. The mount weighs 76.5 grams.
The mount is secured with a locking button. Pressing it on the side will move the optic but not allow the mount to be removed from the weapon. The release can only be done by pressing the button in the middle, where the lock is placed.
Mounting or disassembling, no problem with the KDG mount. It's so quick and, above all, easily done with just one hand - no one else is that fast!
The mount consists of two parts. With the tool provided, the Picatinny plate is quickly removed from the mounting plate. Now, the red dot sight can be screwed onto the plate with four screws. Then, the plate is set on the Picatinny base. Two centration pins help to ensure the plate is always screwed on correctly.
This mount is not only compatible with Aimpoint but also with all other optics that use the same base plate, such as the Holosun 503 GU (
HERE on SPARTANAT in the review), as seen above.
In testing, the Sidelok mount proved itself perfectly. We have taken it down and put it back countless times. In training, during cleaning, when testing other optics, in short: so many times we lost count. The result is more than good - we have not had a single problem with the repeatability of the optic. Once zeroed in, the mount always maintains 100% return to zero, exactly as the manufacturer promises. Testing was done with a .223 caliber, nothing beyond that was tested.
CONCLUSION: If you need things to happen quickly, you’ve come to the right place with KDG. Whether for sports, tactics, or cleanliness, SIDELOK and KINECT mounts offer a quick and clean solution. An imaginable scenario, for example, would be the use of medium-range scopes that need to be quickly swapped out for a red dot for close-quarters combat in urban areas. Also, the use of weapon lights and lasers becomes much more attractive when using the M-LOK system. The fast attachment of the necessary equipment can instantly change the purpose of a weapon - from DMR to Assaulter, essentially. Completely untactical users benefit from the ease of weapon cleaning, switching from dynamic to static shooting, and using a bipod for multiple weapons.
