Future music: IDZ-ES Next Generation

07/16/2021By Redaktion

Rheinmetall presented the Bundeswehr with a first overall concept for the third generation of the Soldier System Infantryman of the Future - Expanded System (IdZ-ES). The presentation of the overall concept is the first result of an extensive study assignment that Rheinmetall received in March 2021. This assignment is to examine and evaluate the improvement potential of the construction standards of IdZ-ES already used in the Bundeswehr. The goal is to create an overall concept for a 3rd generation IdZ-ES. From this overall concept, potential risks of realization, cost drivers, and the maturity level of task-oriented equipment will emerge. This concept will then serve as the basis for the Bundeswehr to develop solutions for the procurement project of the 3rd generation IdZ-ES. The study is expected to be completed by May 30, 2022. Depending on the results of the study, Rheinmetall could potentially receive another significant contract, as the Bundeswehr has further demand for modern digital soldier systems.

The study consists of seven work packages that cover the entire IdZ-ES system, including core system and peripherals. This includes the field of Command and Control systems (C4I), where, among other things, planned conformance with the Land Based Operations Digitization Program (D-LBO) will be examined. Furthermore, subsystems such as clothing, protection and load-carrying equipment, optics and optronics, connectivity to land and air vehicles, as well as weapons and targeting devices will be considered. Interim reports on individual topics are planned for November 22, 2021, and May 30, 2022. Additionally, a final report on all study activities will also be presented on May 30, 2022.

As part of the study assignment, test and investigation models will also be produced. Rheinmetall Electronics, the Bremen system integrator, acts as the responsible general contractor for the project and involves numerous other companies as subcontractors.

The study assignment is intended to build on the two IdZ-ES 68 Train Systems and IdZ-ES VJTF 2023 construction standards from the Panzergrenadier System. The Panzergrenadier System - consisting of IdZ-ES VJTF 2023 and the new construction standard of the Puma infantry fighting vehicle - will be used by the NATO Spearhead Very High Readiness Joint Task Force VJTF 2023 deployed by the Bundeswehr. The Inspector General of the Army declared the combat readiness of the Panzergrenadier System in March 2021. Here is the comparison video: Panzergrenadiere greifen an - Marder vs. Puma
