Pretty popular: artillery ammunition

02/02/2023By Redaktion

Rheinmetall has once again achieved several successful contracts in the field of artillery ammunition. An international customer placed an order with the South African subsidiary Rheinmetall Denel Munition for propellant charges worth around 40 million EUR. Another customer, a NATO member state, commissioned Rheinmetall Denel Munition to deliver 155mm ammunition. This contract is valued at around 17 million EUR. All products come from the proven Assegai product line. The Assegai artillery family can be fired from all NATO STANAG-compatible artillery systems, including the PzH 2000 howitzer.

In 2019, Rheinmetall in South Africa set new range records with the Assegai family and other artillery products, such as the new Extended Range Charge from Rheinmetall's subsidiary Nitrochemie AG. Various systems achieved high ranges with the Assegai system approach from the fuze to the projectile to the propellant charges. A non-NATO 155mm artillery gun with 52 caliber lengths and a 25-liter propellant chamber set the previous record range of 76 kilometers.

Rheinmetall Denel Munition is already working on further future technologies for artillery. The rocket propulsion of conventional 155mm Assegai projectiles is being improved. In addition, a completely new development is underway to achieve ranges of over 155 kilometers.
