UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 743 - MARCH 6, 2024

The Commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces, Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavlyuk, declared on March 6 that Ukraine would attempt to take the initiative and conduct unspecified counteroffensives in 2024.

Pavlyuk stated that the Ukrainian forces aim to stabilize the front line while weakening the Russian forces to be able to redirect Ukrainian units at the front line to training areas in the rear where they could recover and train. He said this would enable Ukraine to build up a grouping of forces that will conduct unspecified counteroffensives (possibly, but not necessarily counteroffensives) in 2024.

Kremlin representatives continue to issue nuclear threats. This is part of an ongoing Russian information operation aimed at weakening Western support for Ukraine and deterring Western aid to Ukraine.

Russian forces have recently made confirmed advances in Kupjansk, Donetsk, and into the western region of Zaporizhia.
