The Ukrainian Armed Forces have started withdrawing from Avdiivka, and the Russian Armed Forces appear to be focusing on making the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian forces more difficult or preventing it altogether.
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi announced early on the morning of February 17 (Ukrainian time) that he had ordered Ukrainian forces in Avdiivka to retreat to more favorable defensive positions to avoid encirclement and save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
The Russian Armed Forces have recently confirmed advances along the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, northwest of Bakhmut, and near Avdiivka.
