Czechs are acquiring 246 CV90 MkIV

05/25/2023By Redaktion

Right on time for IDET 2023 in Brno, the Czech Republic has successfully concluded negotiations with the Swedish government, the Swedish defense procurement organization FMV, and BAE Systems Hägglunds for the purchase of 246 infantry fighting vehicles CV90 MkIV in seven different variants.

The contract is worth 22 billion SEK (2.2 billion USD). The agreement includes vehicles for Czech soldiers and ensures an important role for the Czech industry in the program: The CV90 will be developed and delivered in collaboration with the Czech industry to meet the requirements of the Czech Ministry of Defense and to maintain the national sovereignty of the Czech Republic. Czech industrial partners will contribute 40% of the procurement value in the form of development, production, and assembly contracts (excluding VAT).

BAE Systems Hägglunds has produced over 1,400 CV90 in 17 variants for European countries, five of which are NATO members. Slovakia recently chose the CV90 for its armed forces, making it the eighth or ninth member of the CV90 user group after the Czech Republic.
