Transport helicopter CH-53G: Wait a moment

05/20/2021By Redaktion

Rheinmetall has successfully started the maintenance operation for the CH-53G fleet of the Bundeswehr. Integrated into the structures of Helicopter Wing 64 in Diepholz, Rheinmetall Aviation Services GmbH has now taken over the first two aircraft for inspection in the maintenance docks at the local air base.

The planned start of operations by Rheinmetall was achieved in a remarkably short time. On November 27, 2020, the Bundeswehr and Rheinmetall signed the maintenance contract. Together with the involved Luftwaffe units, especially the detached area of Helicopter Wing 64 in Diepholz, all necessary requirements were met in just 77 working days to begin service on time from March 29, 2021. This was only possible through constant cooperation and very good collaboration with the Bundeswehr.
In Diepholz, Helicopter Wing 64 is responsible for major repair measures and has a total of five Bundeswehr-owned maintenance docks for the CH-53G – an aircraft model that has been in use by the Bundeswehr since 1972.

Before starting the maintenance operations, Rheinmetall Aviation Services had to overcome various organizational and logistical challenges. Experienced personnel had to be found and hired, and in some cases further qualified and trained to meet the specific requirements of the Bundeswehr. In addition, a lot of purchasing services, such as countless tools and work equipment, had to be organized. All information about the Sikorsky CH53G at the Bundeswehr.

About Rheinmetall Aviation Services

The Bremen-based Rheinmetall Aviation Services GmbH was founded in early 2019 for the strategic cooperation with CH-53 manufacturer Sikorsky in the Heavy Transport Helicopter procurement project (STH). Rheinmetall and Sikorsky have been working closely together since 2009 in various procurement projects. The competencies acquired as part of this partnership are being leveraged for the benefit of the Bundeswehr in Diepholz.
