Practice? Do you really need a whole plane for that? Rheinmetall delivers two more Cargo Hold Simulators for the European transport aircraft Airbus A400M to the Bundeswehr. In short: a replica of the rear part with an interior.
The German Air Force continues to rely on Rheinmetall's leading simulation expertise for training its military personnel for the A400M transport aircraft. In January 2021, Airbus, the manufacturer of the A400M, commissioned Rheinmetall to deliver two additional training simulators for the European transport aircraft A400M to the Wunstorf and Altenstadt locations. The two simulators are expected to be delivered and operational by the end of 2022/beginning of 2023. The contract value is in the lower double-digit million euro range.
At Wunstorf, the Air Transport Wing 62 will receive an A400M cargo compartment simulator Cargo Hold Part Task Trainer (CPTT). This simulator complements the existing A400M Training Center simulation and training systems, such as the modern Cargo Hold Trainer Enhanced (CHT-E), in training cargo crew, especially loadmasters and ground personnel. Find all information about the A400M in the Bundeswehr.
A second CPTT adapted to its specific tasks will be used in the future at the Airborne and Air Transport School in Altenstadt for training air cargo personnel and paratroopers. The CPTT will be the first A400M simulator at the location.
The A400M CPTT is an exact full-scale reproduction of the A400M cargo hold with controls. It is used for realistic training of cargo crew and ground personnel. The CPTT allows training of mission-specific reconfiguration of the cargo hold, preparation of cargo, loading and unloading, in-flight and on-ground procedures, and crew cooperation. The system is suitable for initial, advanced, recurrent, and operational training.
Even complex scenarios and emergency situations can be practiced safely, as no original equipment is tied up for training purposes, and instead remains available for operations. This all contributes to ensuring that soldiers are well-prepared and qualified for their missions. In addition to training, the CPTT enables users to evaluate, test, and qualify procedures and configurations for new types of cargo. This is achieved through the high fidelity reproduction of the original system implemented in the CPTT.
The targeted expansion of Rheinmetall's comprehensive Cargo product line by the CPTT enables adaptation of the full range of Cargo training equipment to other platforms.
In addition to the CPTT, Rheinmetall has delivered other Cargo training devices such as the Load Master Working Station Trainer (LMWST) or the aforementioned CHT-E to various A400M user nations. With this recent contract, a total of ten complex and realistic A400M training tools from Rheinmetall contribute to a high training standard in the A400M cargo domain.
The first A400M CPTT was delivered to the Royal Malaysian Air Force in 2019. CHT-E simulators have been delivered to the Airbus International Training Centre (ITC) in Sevilla, the Royal Air Force in Brize Norton, the German Air Force in Wunstorf, and the French paratroopers (army) in Toulouse. One LMWST is located at the Airbus ITC in Sevilla, at the French national A400M training center in Orléans, and at the Royal Air Force National Training Center in Brize Norton.
