HENSOLDT has signed a contract worth more than one hundred million euros with Thales, the integrator of mission combat systems, for the delivery of its TRS-4D Mariner radar for the future Multi-Purpose Frigates F126 of the German Navy.
Commissioned in 2020, the F126 program is the latest frigate program of the German Navy. The F126 class will consist of four ships (with an option for two more ships); the program also includes several land-based test and training sites. The first frigate F126 is expected to be delivered to the customer in 2028. The entire program has a duration of more than ten years.
The TRS-4D radar by HENSOLDT will be installed in its non-rotating version with four fixed antenna arrays. The integration of the radar on the ships and land facilities will be carried out by Thales to deliver a mission and combat system that meets the German requirements.
The first deliveries are planned for 2025. With this system, combined with other systems and sensors on board, F126 is able to operate in the most complex maritime environments and contribute internationally to ensuring security and stability.
Gerben Edelijn, Vice President Thales Above Water Systems: "We are delighted to work with HENSOLDT and equip the frigate F126 with a sensor solution that fully meets the German requirements. The cooperation between the German and Dutch navies and industry has a long tradition and leads to impressive results, and we look forward to continuing this tradition."
"Our TRS-4D and its high-end components are used on several ships of the German Navy, providing the customer with a high level of commonality," said Markus Rothmaier, Vice President Naval & Ground Radars at HENSOLDT. "I am proud that we can offer the German Navy a comprehensive and truly European solution together with Thales' sensor technology and combat system."
Radars from the TRS-4D product family are already in use in various versions aboard ships of the German Navy, including on the F125 frigate and the K130 corvette (second batch). The system benefits from continuous product improvements and advantages in spare parts supply and training. For this reason, the TRS-4D NR has been pre-selected by the German Navy.
