To cope with a complex and constantly changing threat environment, the European Defence Fund supports the EU cooperation project STORE (Shared daTabase for Optronics image Recognition and Evaluation) to accelerate the deployment of AI and associated shared databases in the imaging systems of land forces.
Facing increasingly sophisticated threats (hypersonic missiles, combat drones, drone swarms, etc.), optronic sensors are more strategically important than ever and must deliver top performance in the field.
STORE will establish the foundation for Europe's first common, scalable database for defence images and explore various algorithmic solutions for threat detection. By combining optronic sensors with AI-based analysis techniques, the STORE project will create future capabilities that enhance soldiers' battlefield perception, increase their tactical situational awareness, shorten the decision loop to reduce response time, and thereby improve survivability.
This project, involving a consortium of 20 partners (manufacturers, SMEs and scientists) from 8 EU member states and Norway, aims to create a shared image database that performs data analysis and target recognition through artificial intelligence (AI). The following companies are involved:
