HOW TO: Build your gear stand

11/16/2009By Redaktion

Who doesn't know the problem: the expensive vest collects dust in the closet or in a box. A solution to this is a so-called "Gearstand". In principle, it is a valet stand, designed for heavier loads - and as a tactical valet stand perfect for any living room.

The stand is easy to build yourself. All you need is some wood from the hardware store, a few screws or nails, and the right tools, and then you're ready to go. Find out how exactly here.

Materials needed:

  • 1 beam 10x10x100 cm
  • 2 strips 2x5x50 cm
  • 4 strips 2x5x30 cm
  • sufficient screws (at least 4 cm long)

The basic structure is the 10x10 cm beam with a length of 1 m. 20 cm below the top end of the beam, attach a 50 cm long strip to the front and back. The whole thing looks like a cross. At the bottom end, attach a 30 cm long strip on each side. These four strips form the base of the stand.

Now you can paint the whole thing in any color, and you have a decorative and useful item for the living room. One tip for screwing: when in doubt, it's better to pre-drill to prevent the wood from splitting due to the screw.

The gear stand in the pictures in the article was built slightly differently, but this construction of the base has proven to be less stable. That's why here is the plan for the mentioned stand and a picture from ITS Tactical of what it should look like.
