Tactical tip: SEAL Knot 3 - Clove hitch

06/16/2019By Redaktion

It is also called the Web hitch - in English, Clove Hitch - and is a knot used to secure a line to an object. It hardly jams even under heavy load, but can unravel or loosen under a unilateral load. Among the SEALs, it is used, among other things, to connect multiple sticks of explosives with a detonating cord. But it is also used in climbing for self-protection. It is also quite useful for stretching a rope between two trees for shelter. For tying instructions:

This knot can be tied or wrapped.
Tie:

Tying means that the rope can be slid over the part to which it is to be attached. Simply form two loops side by side.

Then place the second loop under the first and…

…wrap it around a rod, bar, tree stump, or post.

Just tighten and the clove hitch is ready.

Wrap:

This knot is wrapped when you want to tie the rope around a tree, for example, or when sliding it over is not possible.First wrap the rope around the pole.

Then cross with the loose end over the rope.

Wrap around again, but pass the end under the crossing rope.

Tighten - and the knot is ready again.
