HOW TO: SEAL-Knoten 1 - Bowline

04/28/2019By Redaktion

The bowline – in English: Bowline (pronounced: Bo lin) – is very useful for securely knotting lanyards or dummy cords to D-rings, loops, or similar; or for attaching a carrying strap to a weapon. The usefulness of this knot is almost limitless. It is tied as follows:

First, form a loop. It is important that the "working end" is laid over the standing end.

With the working end, wrap it around the object to be fastened, or form a loop of the desired length. In our case, we have chosen a fancy bottle opener as the object to be attached.

Now thread the working end through the loop, the important thing here is: from bottom to top.

Next, pass under the standing end.

Now pass the working end back through the loop. The crucial point is that the end is led back into the loop from the correct side. The two rope ends must lie parallel. As a mnemonic: "The fox comes out of the den, goes around the tree, and back into the den."

To tighten, grab the standing end with one hand, and the two parallel ends with the other (the working end and the parallel part of the loop). The knot is now finished.

If you pass through the loop from the top, the end result will be a less neat knot. It still holds somehow, but only somehow.

It is very important to practice all knots regularly so that one does not have to think in an emergency situation. So dear readers, practice diligently and pass on the knowledge of these knots as well. HERE you can find the link to the video on YouTube, because moving images are sometimes better.
