We have seen too many people with oversized backpacks on various Milsims, Grillsims, and Simsims. The highlight so far were "scouts" with fully loaded IBA - including inlays and SAPIs, of course - and a heavy backpack weighing about 30 to 40 kg. After 4 hours, everyone had become victims of the weight.
If you don't want to end up like that, you need to rethink your packing strategy. Instead of just thinking "what could I possibly need?", start by considering the following questions:
- What can I expect?
- What is available locally?
- What kind of weather is possible?
Once you have answered these questions, then you can start creating your packing list, which should be revisited and refined as needed. We were inspired by the BE-X Blog, which provides a great guide on selecting the right gear. Take a look at the article if you want to make your already heavy life a bit easier. And always remember: pack mules are there to carry the excess weight.
Also, HERE is an informative article about "tactical backpacks".
