NEXTORCH TA22 Penlight

NEXTORCH has been around since 2005 and in a short time they established themselves on the market with their high-quality lamps. The brand new TA22 Slim-Line Tactical Pen Flashlight is the slim version among the tactical flashlights. At the IWA 2025 in Nuremberg, we received a specimen from NEXTORCH that we would like to introduce to you in more detail.

Scope of delivery

The TA22 comes with a rechargeable 650mAh 10880 Li-Ion battery with integrated USB-C charging socket, stainless steel clip, lanyard, USB-C charging cable and instruction manual.

The instruction manual is multilingual and explains very well, written and illustrated, how the TA22 works.

Technical specifications

The TA22 is made of A6061-T6 aluminum alloy and is lightweight yet robust. It has passed the 2-meter drop test according to ANSI and is waterproof to IP68, meaning it can be submerged up to a depth of 2 meters underwater. The nanoceramic striking surface provides additional functionality for breaking glass in emergencies and for self-defense. In addition, the anti-roll design ensures that the flashlight stays in place when placed on uneven surfaces. The lamp is designed for use in extreme conditions and operates reliably at temperatures between -20 °C and 40 °C (~-4°F to 104 °F). For temperatures below -20 °C, the use of low-temperature batteries is recommended.

The dimensions are 149 mm (length) x 16 mm (head diameter) x 14.4 mm (body diameter) with a weight of only 41 grams.

MODE selector switch

The TA22 features a multi-mode design with three selectable settings: LOCK, DUTY, and TAC. LOCK mode: Prevents accidental activation and is therefore ideal for storage or transportation.

The different light intensities can be selected using the pressure button.

TAC(TICAL) mode with 850 lumens: The rear switch can be half-pressed for "momentary ON" and fully pressed for the strobe mode.

DUTY mode: Half-press for momentary activation, full press for constant high brightness, and then half press to switch between brightness levels (high, medium, low):

• Low 15 lumens, 15 hours runtime, 12 m beam distance
• Medium 150 lumens, 2 hours runtime, 40 m beam distance
• High 850 lumens, 1 hour runtime, 95 m beam distance

Power Supply

A 10880 Li-ion battery supplies the flashlight with power.

The battery can be charged via the USB-C port. Red means the charging process is in progress. Blue means that the charging process is complete.

The battery charge status is also indicated by the mode switch. An LED display informs you about the battery charge status when the flashlight is turned to the Lock mode. Blue glowing: 75% - 100%, Blue blinking: 50% - 75%, Red glowing: 25% - 50%.

The TA22 is equipped at the lamp head with a crown lens made of titanium, into which nano-ceramic spheres are incorporated. These ensure that maximum force can act on the smallest surface with a blow.

One or more blows are enough to clear the entrance or exit, depending on the nature of the disc.

Ease of use

The TA22 is easy to operate with one hand. Changing between modes is also possible with gloves. It's all a matter of practice.

The activation switch is easy to feel and can be operated with gloves.

Every Day Carry

Thanks to the steel clip, the flashlight can be carried concealed or openly everywhere.

We tried to fit the flashlight in a uniform shirt. Unfortunately, the flashlight was too big for it. The TA22 fits conveniently in most pants pockets.

Nevertheless, the flashlight is slim and light enough to be discreetly carried in the inside pocket of a jacket.

In general, the TA22 fits very well in the hand, especially in self-defense situations as a palm stick/kubotan.
