Digitalization of the ground forces:

System integration D-LBO secured

12/19/2024
Under the term "Digitalization of Land-based Operations," or D-LBO for short, the aim is to ensure the leadership and operational capability of the army in the long term and sustainably by using future-proof technologies. With the integration contract signed today, the Bundeswehr has reached another enormously important milestone on this path. The contract covers the model and series integration of digital command and control components in more than 9,000 platforms and vehicles of the German Army. Specifically, these components include both the different equipment of the new command and control devices along with their related functional components and the integration and modification of all necessary peripheral equipment - from modifying antenna systems to integrating new cable harnesses to adjusting power distribution systems on the platforms. In addition, the creation and adaptation of all related technical documentation, as well as covering the need for spare parts, are part of the contract. The primary goal is to equip the "Division 2025" as the first army unit with D-LBO system components in the D-LBO Basic version. The current main contract was preceded by seven early individual contracts in which model integrations of selected platforms and vehicles for the "Division 2025" were already commissioned at the beginning of 2024. Given the complexity of the program, this staggered scheduling of integration work was necessary. As a result, individual model integrations have already been successfully completed today. Starting in mid-2025, the equipment within the scope of serial integrations will begin "on location" to fully equip the "Division 2025" by the end of 2027. The serial integrations will largely be carried out near the respective army units' locations. The decision to do this is based on the need to convert as a unit over various platform and vehicle types to ensure the exercise and operational capability of the respective units in conjunction with the new command and control system. The equipment of all other platform fleets is expected to be completed by the end of 2030. Additional support vehicles from the Bundeswehr Vehicle Fleet Service GmbH pool will be retrofitted in their own integration processes. At the same time, a second contract was concluded, which includes the integration of the IT systems of all vehicle and platform systems of the land forces as part of the D-LBO project.
