SPORT: That was the PRECISION GUNRUN in Slovakia.

07/21/2022By Redaktion

The 2-Gun Action Challenge Match fever has hit us and so there was the next event at the beginning of July. At the Zohor Shooting Range (where the TCA courses take place) near Vienna, there was a kind of test match.

The series is called GUNRUN, which is otherwise similar to the BRUTALITY series, focusing more on physical endurance. But what happens when the focus is more on precision?

The organizers wanted to find out and designed three stages where there was some physical challenge and a lot of precision involved. At the beginning, after registration, there was a brief briefing and participants were divided into groups that were then assigned to the stations.

Stage 1

Our first stage was quite demanding right from the start. It began by shooting at three man-sized targets from the car upon the signal from the timer, ideally hitting the A Zone with 3 shots each. Then disembark and grab the rifle, move on to the first barricade.

From this barricade, you had to shoot at three steel targets located approximately 175 meters, 200 meters, and 225 meters away. Once you hit all three, move on to the next of three barricades. Side note, with a 10" AR from Oberland Arms and a 3x Magnifier, you were the underdog against rifles with LPVOs and longer barrels. But no problem, any shots that missed were simply shooter errors.

At the second barricade, you had to touch it with the rifle.

The last barricade is a bit harder to spot, it is the Black Wall, to the left of the wooden barrier. The performance of the participants varied greatly, some breezed through, while others had significant issues with the different hold points.

Stage 2

The second stage revolved around these targets. From a distance of 50 meters, you had to first hit the five man-sized targets on the left from 2 positions. Then hit the black dot on the right and finish with a pistol shot at the steel target.

The first position was standing free to shoot at the body center with the rifle. The goal was to land at least 1 hit, you could shoot as many times as you wanted and take as much time as you needed. Whether you hit or not, you had to either see through the optics or trust your skills. That was extremely exciting for us!

If it was decided that enough meetings had taken place, position 2 followed. Shots should be placed on the head area through a barricade slot, which made life difficult for elevated optics. Again on the five discs, again one decided for oneself whether one had hit or not.

The last position on the black dot, about the size of a 2 euro coin, was a testament to the accuracy of the optics and the shooter. Only very few hit, or were lucky - like us. Out of 5 shots fired, one luckily hit right on target. The steel target standing freely with the pistol, was relatively light compared to the rest and a pleasant ending. Nevertheless, attention had to be paid to the point of aim here too.

Stage 3

The third and final stage was associated with physical exertion. A 10-kilogram kettlebell had to be lifted overhead 10 times and then brought back to the ground. Then crawl to the right into the 'tunnel' and shoot at 5 discs from there. If you touched the 'tunnel', there was a penalty time on top. The targets were also difficult, as discs were placed very close that were not to be shot at.

A bipod and LPVO made this exercise easier. The only disadvantage was that due to the vegetation, the targets were somewhat hidden. Here too, the Range Officer did not give feedback on whether enough hits were achieved. It had to be decided by oneself, and then it was time to leave the tunnel. Grab the 10-kilogram kettlebell and run up to the discs.

In the picture, you can see the discs and how close they are placed to each other. Each disc had to be hit with 3 pistol shots, then the stage was completed.

Three stages to test some processes and gather initial feedback. We liked it very much and it was a welcome change to experience a bit less physical strain. The other participants felt the same, so there will probably be another Precision Gunrun, which will likely offer more stages.

If you would like some motion pictures with the images, you can find a short video of the event here.

CONCLUSION: For us, it was the first GUNRUN and certainly not the last. The team around Peter Revicky has a brilliant series running here that is very contagious for us. Fortunately, the next GUNRUN will already take place on October 1, 2022. This one is entitled BUDDY GUNRUN and demands everything from a team of two. The website for registration will be revamped shortly. International participants are welcome, and all stages and procedures were explained in English if needed. We will keep you updated...
