SWITZERLAND: New combat clothing of the army

The Federal Office for Armament armasuisse has awarded the contract for the production of weather protection clothing, which will be procured with the new Army Combat Clothing and Equipment (MBAS), to two Swiss, one Austrian, one German, one Polish, and one Indian company. The confectionery shops of all six companies were also pre-checked for social sustainability of production, such as working conditions and safety standards. The procurement volume for weather protection clothing amounts to around 44 million Swiss francs.

When procuring Modular Clothing and Equipment (MBAS) for the Army, the Federal Office for Armament armasuisse awarded the contract for the production of weather protection clothing to five European companies and one Indian company. The companies are Workfashion.com AG and Cross Fashion Ltd. from Switzerland, Goldeck Textil GmbH from Austria, Ziegler Textil AG from Germany, Unifeq Sp. Z.o.o. from Poland, and Qualiance Pvt. Ltd. from India. The weather protection clothing consists of rain and cold protection clothing parts and has a procurement volume of around 44 million Swiss francs. Social Sustainability and Environmental Standards Checked at Confectionery Shops

armasuisse publicly tendered the contract for weather protection clothing. During the evaluation phase, the submitted offers were thoroughly checked. In addition to qualitative and financial criteria, special attention was paid to the confectionery shops of the providers. As is common in this industry, the production facilities are mainly located in Eastern Europe or Asia. Before awarding the contract, armasuisse arranged for on-site auditing of the production facilities to ensure that the production working conditions meet the standards of the International Labour Organization and that safety standards are met. Compliance with environmental standards was also verified. The companies that were awarded the contract ensure compliance with these standards.

Confection of Combat Clothing on Track

armasuisse publicly tendered the contract for the confection of combat clothing in two calls for tenders. After awarding the weather protection clothing, the award for the confection of camouflage and work suits is still pending. The contracts for headgear have already been awarded. These are produced by a French and a Polish company.

The MBAS project includes the procurement of new combat clothing and carrying systems as well as a hydration system and ballistic body protection in two versions. The members of the Army will be equipped with modern equipment that optimally supports their performance. Parliament approved credits for a procurement volume of 348 million Swiss francs with the Army Message 2018. Implementation will begin in 2023.
