Schiebel at the Royal Navy

02/10/2023By Redaktion

THALES and SCHIEBEL are pleased to announce that they have been awarded the contract by the British Ministry of Defence to deliver a revolutionary rotary-wing unmanned air system (UAS) designed to provide Royal Navy warships with an "eye in the sky" for protection. The contract for the Peregrine system involves the deployment of a rotor UAS equipped with powerful surveillance sensors to contribute to the protection of a Type 23 frigate.

Today, international naval forces are increasingly threatened by a range of hostile platforms often operating in crowded maritime environments. An unmanned rotary aircraft that can rapidly launch and then have a long endurance and the capability to find, fix, track, and identify targets provides additional protection for the ship and its crew, giving them invaluable time to prepare and respond.

THALES will act as the lead systems integrator for the program, bringing together an unrivaled combination of proven UAS capabilities from Schiebel and a range of highly precise intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance sensors and systems from THALES.

SCHIEBEL will provide its proven CAMCOPTER S-100, a highly efficient unmanned aircraft system that has already accumulated over 100,000 operational hours, including challenging deck-based operations in difficult wind and sea conditions.

The sensors of the S-100 are supported by an automatic identification system and combined with the CarteNav AIMS mission system, enabling the operator to quickly detect and identify unknown targets.

The I-Master radar from THALES can operate in both Synthetic Aperture Radar and Maritime Moving Target Indication modes. Once it detects and locates a contact, the onboard electro-optical/infrared sensor is used for identification.

The high-resolution image and radar data are sent to the operator and distributed in real-time via the ship's combat management system, making it available to multiple users.

This partnership brings together 30 years of experience in UAS development, integration, testing, and operation with the proven track record of the S-100. This combined capability is based on proven solutions that provide real value with immediate effect.
