Rheinmetall can chalk up the second call-off from the framework contract for the delivery of 155mm artillery ammunition to the Bundeswehr. The latter commissioned Rheinmetall to deliver a total of tens of thousands of L15-type shells for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as conventional 155mm Assegai shells for the German Armed Forces. The order value amounts to a low three-digit million EUR amount. Delivery is scheduled to take place in the course of 2024.
It was only in July 2023 that Rheinmetall reported the conclusion of a new and the extension of an existing framework contract with the Bundeswehr in the artillery sector. The contracts include the delivery of several hundred thousand shells, fuses, and propellants.
The need to replenish the ammunition stocks of the armed forces arises from the war in Ukraine. In this context, Rheinmetall has received several major orders in the field of artillery ammunition.
The recently concluded framework contract with Rheinmetall for the delivery of 155mm artillery ammunition has a term until 2029 and a potential order volume of around 1.2 billion EUR gross. Initial orders for combat and training ammunition from this contract were already placed immediately upon signing the contract.
Among the ammunition family that Rheinmetall offers in the artillery sector are the DM121 high explosive projectile, the DM125 smoke projectile, and the DM702 SMArt search fuse ammunition (a development with Diehl Defence), as well as the RH68 training projectile and the range-optimized smoke projectiles RH1901 and RH1902. In addition, the portfolio includes the versatile 155mm Assegai artillery ammunition family from Rheinmetall Denel Munition: insensitive munition (IM), conventional high explosive (HE) shells, as well as smoke, illumination, infrared illumination, and other shells. The entire Assegai ammunition spectrum can be used to its full range of around 40 kilometers. With the aforementioned framework contract, the proven Assegai ammunition family is being introduced to the Bundeswehr.
