Rheinmetall has received another contract from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence for the delivery of modern medical equipment for field use. Rheinmetall will deliver two rescue stations for mobile operations. The two systems procured as part of the federal government's enablement initiative have a contract value in the higher single-digit million euro range and are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. Rheinmetall had already been commissioned to deliver a Role-2 hospital by the end of 2022.
The containerized rescue station for mobile operations is referred to as a "Forward Surgical Team (FST)." It consists of three vehicle trains, each with a truck and a trailer, as well as a total of six containers. The five connected and expandable containers in operational condition include a reception or triage area, an X-ray shelter, an operating preparation room, an operating shelter, and an intensive care unit. The supply container with a power generator and water tanks can autonomously supply the system for at least 48 hours. The system is turnkey-equipped and equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology. Major components like the powerful X-ray machine come from Siemens Healthineers, a strategic partner of Rheinmetall.
The so-called FSTs are intended for "Damage Control Surgery (DCS)." Within this framework, life-saving measures can be carried out on severely wounded individuals in a front-line situation in a very short time. Patients are stabilized and prepared for transport to further medical units such as a Role 2 or Role 3 field hospital, or to a stationary facility. The mobile operation allows for quick operational readiness due to short setup times and enables rapid reaction and transfer capability in changing front-line scenarios.
