In Australia, the next major procurement is on the horizon: Rheinmetall is offering the KF41 Lynx (on the right in the picture) to the Australian Army for Land 400 Phase 3, while Hanwha Defense is proposing the AS21 Redback (on the left). However, on November 25, the Australian government announced that a decision on the Land 400 Phase 3 project - replacing the army's outdated M113AS4 APCs with new infantry fighting vehicle platforms - will be made only after the publication of the country's strategic defense strategy review.
The Minister for Defense Industry, Pat Conroy, said: "The review will provide recommendations on priorities for investment in Australian defense capabilities and Australia's defense posture to address the country's security challenges over the next decade and beyond." In the meantime, the two competitors are in a waiting position: the Lynx KF41 has just been introduced in Hungary as the first country, while the AS21 Redback may serve as a heavy armored infantry fighting vehicle in Poland.
