RHEINMETALL: Subsystems for CROWS weapon stations of the US Army

01/18/2023By Redaktion

Rheinmetall has received a significant order in the USA related to a project of the US Army. The subsidiary American Rheinmetall Systems has signed a framework contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace to support the Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS) program of the US Army. The framework contract, which is planned for five years, could lead to an order intake in the double-digit million range for Rheinmetall. It involves the further delivery of precision subsystems including high-resolution, image-stabilized electro-optical sensors (day cameras), weapon mounts, and other key components. American Rheinmetall Systems is a leading company in integrating next-generation intelligent systems into land vehicles and reconnaissance platforms.

The CROWS systems enable the armed forces to engage targets from movement or stationary positions day and night with precise fire. They are equipped with a day sight camera, a thermal camera, and a laser rangefinder. Kongsberg has delivered over 23,000 CROWS systems to 26 nations worldwide within 17 years. Since 2008, American Rheinmetall Systems has provided supporting subsystems and has performed thousands of repairs, maintenance, and upgrades for systems in operation during this time.

American Rheinmetall Systems not only designs and develops products and technologies that are a top priority for the modernization of armed forces, but also provides the US military with unique access to Rheinmetall's global portfolio of next-generation electronic solutions and weapon technologies. These include soldier systems, air defense solutions, training and simulation, integrated weapon systems with smart ammunition and fire control systems, surveillance systems like those present in CROWS, and intelligent vehicle systems.
