10/01/2020By Redaktion

Rheinmetall has been contracted by an international customer to deliver modern mortar ammunition. The South African subsidiary Rheinmetall Denel Munition will supply conventional, extended-range, and state-of-the-art 60mm patrol mortar ammunition. Deliveries to the long-standing customer are expected to be completed by the end of 2021. The contract value is in the mid-single-digit million euro range.

Rheinmetall Denel Munition applies world-leading technology to enhance its mortar portfolio. "We are working with various partners to expand our leading position in the 120mm mortar ammunition sector," said Frans Landsberg, the responsible product manager. The complete range includes mortar ammunition in calibers of 60mm, 81mm, and 120mm, as well as related ammunition, including insensitized properties and improved fragmentation effects.

The company's goal is to follow artillery systems with rocket-assisted technology in the near future and become the system house for mortar ammunition. "In order to meet the demanding requirements of our customers, we must continuously expand our outstanding capabilities in the field of indirect fire," said Jan-Patrick Helmsen, CEO of Rheinmetall Denel Munition. "We will continue to push ourselves to the limits to maintain our leading position in technology and innovation."
