Rheinmetall has delivered a specially protected vehicle of the Survivor R type to the Berlin Police. The Police President Berlin, Dr. Barbara Slowik, symbolically handed over the key of the vehicle to the Einsatz Directorate, represented by Criminal Director Martin John. The versatile vehicle now delivered is tailored to the needs of the Einsatz Directorate of the Berlin Police. It was commissioned at the end of September 2017 as part of the Berlin state's anti-terrorism package. Berlin is the third federal state after Saxony to equip its police special forces with the Survivor R.
The Survivor R from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles stands for the themes of security and mobility to which Rheinmetall is committed. Developed in cooperation with the specialty vehicle manufacturer Achleitner, the Survivor R is ideal as a protected special vehicle for police forces. Such vehicles are particularly needed in police situations with a high level of threat to safely transport special forces to their deployment location or evacuate individuals from the danger area.
The Survivor R is based on a powerful 4x4 truck chassis from MAN and a cabin made of armored steel. This high-mobility and over 100 km/h fast vehicle combines automotive mass production technology with modern protection technology from Rheinmetall.
The consistent use of civilian-commercial and military series components enables a favorable vehicle price, as well as worldwide maintenance and repair in the Rheinmetall MAN service network. This makes the Survivor R a cost-effective, easy-to-maintain vehicle platform with low lifecycle costs and high operational readiness.
The publicly traded Rheinmetall AG, based in Düsseldorf, is a globally operating high-tech group. The company is divided into two operational business areas: Rheinmetall Defence and Rheinmetall Automotive. With around 23,000 employees, the group generated an annual turnover of around 5.9 billion EUR in 2017.
Rheinmetall sees it as its obligation to provide those who protect our society with the best possible equipment. Rheinmetall's product portfolio in the area of Public Security - that is, in the field of equipment for authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS) - covers many relevant capability categories: reconnaissance and surveillance, leadership, cyber security, effects, protection, and mobility.
