Rheinmetall welcomes the announcement by the Commonwealth of Australia to soon acquire further logistics vehicles and equipment for the Australian Defence Force. As part of the Land 121 Phase 5B project, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia (RMMVA) will deliver over 1,000 highly mobile military trucks and over 800 equipment to the Australian Defence Force (ADF). This is an extension of the current Land 121 Phase 3B project. Deliveries are set to begin in 2019 and run until 2024.
Michael Wittlinger, Head of Rheinmetall's Logistics Vehicles division and member of the management board of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH, emphasizes the company's aim to create a highly efficient logistics backbone for the ADF.
"We are very proud to be able to continue the excellent cooperation with the ADF," says Wittlinger. "We will work closely with our network of Australian partners and suppliers so that the Australian Defence Force can use these highly mobile trucks and equipment in military operations across Australia."
As part of the current Land 121 Phase 3B project, RMMVA delivers protected and unprotected military trucks and equipment from its integration facility in Brisbane. The vehicles are then tested and accepted at the 1,000 hectare site of the Australian Automotive Research Centre near Anglesea, located approximately 125 km southwest of Melbourne.
Marco Van Lieshout, Chief Operations Officer of Rheinmetall's Australia business, highlights that all partners of the Land 121 Phase 5B program work closely together and continually contribute their expertise to the vehicles and equipment supplied to the Commonwealth.
"Australian involvement is a key aspect of the Land 121 Phase 5B program," says Van Lieshout. "Small and medium-sized enterprises from Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, and Victoria will be involved in the project."
The Defence division of Rheinmetall AG is one of the world's leading manufacturers of defense technology, including military tracked and wheeled vehicles, weapon systems, ammunition, simulation solutions, command and control technology, protection systems, and sensors. RMMVA has over 150 employees at four Australian locations and provides various services to the Australian Defence Force. These include project management, system engineering and integration, lifecycle support, repair and maintenance, and spare parts management.
