Rheinmetall sells over 1,000 more military trucks to Australia - Order value 430 million EUR
Düsseldorf/Adelaide. Rheinmetall has once again won a major contract in Australia. The Düsseldorf-based technology group has been tasked to deliver more than 1,000 additional military trucks and over 800 modules to the Australian Armed Forces following an existing contract. The value of the contract now signed amounts to 430 million EUR. The Commonwealth of Australia has thus made a procurement decision that was already announced publicly in July 2018.
Deliveries to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) are set to begin in 2019 and continue until 2024.
The new procurement is part of the Australian Land 121 Phase 5B project. Rheinmetall was already successful in the predecessor project 3B, awarded in 2013, and is currently delivering a total of 2500 medium and heavy military trucks worth 1.2 billion EUR from its location in Brisbane - HERE is our report on it.
Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG: "This follow-up order is of great strategic importance for us and gives us an excellent reference for other important international projects. The order reflects the satisfaction of the Australian customer with Rheinmetall's performance and the quality of our vehicles. The renewed success in the Pacific region demonstrates that we are at the forefront of technology with our products and also a proven and reliable partner in the realization of complex major projects."
Michael Wittlinger, Head of Rheinmetall Logistic Vehicles and member of the management board of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH, emphasizes the company's claim to create a highly efficient logistical backbone for the Australian Defence Force with the ordered trucks.
“We are very proud to be able to continue the excellent collaboration with the ADF," says Wittlinger. "We will work closely with our network of Australian partners and suppliers so that the Australian Armed Forces can use these highly mobile trucks and modules in military operations." By involving the Australian industry and establishing local manufacturing capacities, Rheinmetall plays an important role in establishing an independent military vehicle industry in Australia and thus in expanding the country's armament technological base.
The Defence division of Rheinmetall AG is one of the world's leading manufacturers of defense technology, including military tracked and wheeled vehicles, weapon systems, ammunition, simulation solutions, command technology, protection systems, and sensors.
The Australian branch of Rheinmetall's truck division, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia (RMMVA), has over 150 employees at four locations in the country and provides various services to the Australian Armed Forces. These include project management, system engineering and integration, lifecycle support, repair and maintenance, as well as spare parts management.
