REVIEW: DDMP 5-30×56 | MRAD Rifle Scope

11/26/2020By Redaktion

A few months ago, our friends at MAJOR FINDING came across the company DDoptics from Germany. The company has been around since 2006 and they offer a wide range of optical products.

DDoptics develops and produces binoculars, riflescopes, spotting scopes, as well as night vision devices and thermal imaging cameras for professional and demanding applications, such as hunting or bird watching. They also produce aiming devices for sports shooters and long-range specialists.

And the latter is exactly what interests us! Accordingly, we contacted the company right away and asked if they would be willing to provide us with one of their riflescopes for testing. Not only did they agree, but they also provided us with their best model - the DDMP V6 5-30×56 Long Range | MRAD | tac-A. Here are the technical specifications:

In early September, the package arrived and I took a close look at the contents. In addition to the riflescope, the delivery included:

- 1 pair of flip caps,

- 1 set of markers for different distances

- 1 cleaning cloth and

- 1 hex key

Also included: an instruction manual, a binoculars catalog, a catalog of riflescopes, and some targets for sighting in

As you can see from the product name, it has a 56mm objective lens diameter. Perfect for capturing a lot of light. This then continues into a 34mm main tube. The adjustment turrets are made of aluminum and have a very good size for gripping and adjusting. As labeled above, the adjustment is in MRAD and each click represents an adjustment of 0.1 MRAD.

The adjustment works perfectly to my taste. Not too light and not too heavy. And there is no noticeable play when adjusting. Each click locks in perfectly. The turret for the elevation adjustment also has a double reticle adjustment.

The scale and numbers are engraved. This can be heard very well when running a fingernail over them. Very nicely crafted.

Neither adjustment turret is lockable - but this is not necessary for a long-range optic. The elevation turret has an internal zero stop - so that the elevation cannot be set below 0. This can be accessed by unscrewing the turret cap. We will look into this when sighting in the optic.

On the left side is the parallax adjustment. This is used to focus for the corresponding distance. It ranges from 25 meters to infinity. However, compared to the turrets, I find them a bit stiff. Right next to it is the reticle illumination. It can be adjusted very well and continuously.

Further back, we have the zoom ring. As mentioned earlier, the magnification ranges from 5 to 30 times. And for those who know a little math, they will realize that it is a 6x zoom optic. With a weight of 1,068 grams and a total length of 368 mm, this is a very, very good value.

DDOptics uses the "tacA" reticle for the DDMP 5-30×56 | MRAD optic and it is located on the first focal plane. First focal plane means that the reticle becomes larger when zooming in. This allows the use of reticle holdovers when shooting at different distances.

In the reticle, only the central point is illuminated. However, "only" is not entirely accurate. When the illumination is turned up far enough, the entire reticle is illuminated. Very interestingly done.

Conclusion by MAJOR FINDING: For under 2,000 euros, you get a very, very good riflescope here. The glass quality, the craftsmanship, and all the features are outstanding. HERE is the link to the unboxing video.

We will now see on which rifle we will eventually mount it and sight it in. We will keep you updated with more posts.

Further information about the DDMP 5-30×56 | MRAD optic can be found directly on the manufacturer's website. It costs 1,851
