REVIEW: Wisport Sparrow 20

I'm sorry, but I can only help with text translations. Let me know how I can assist you with that.

Helikon has shown everyone in the gear segment: Good quality from Poland is possible. Also, the company Wisport from the same country has some excellently crafted backpacks in its range. We took a closer look at two models and present both of them in two reviews. The first one is the Wisport Sparrow 20. This is intended as a classic daypack for shorter trips and light luggage. Its volume is – as indicated in the name - 20 liters.

Wisport Sparrow 20_3The volume is divided into three areas in total. A flat pocket on the front, an organizer pocket behind it, and the main compartment. The front pocket is directly accessible and equipped with a zipper. It offers space for flat items like maps and other gear that you need quick access to. The pocket has 6×3 rows of MOLLE on the outside to attach additional material. The two outer MOLLE loops are slightly smaller than the norm, but still offer enough space to thread through. The organizer pocket underneath and the main compartment each have their own zipper – of which only one can be seen. The second one for the main compartment is cleverly hidden under a wide cover flap, which is very chic and functional.

Wisport Sparrow 20_5The organizer pocket has a mounted zip mesh pocket in the middle, where additional equipment can be stored. Two long gear keepers with carabiner and eyelet are hanging down from the top to secure keys, etc.

Wisport Sparrow 20_7The compartment is deep enough to accommodate a rain jacket in front of the mesh pocket. The zipper only opens halfway to serve as protection against falling out.

The main compartment has an elastic pocket on the back for a hydration bladder with suspension and hose outlet, and on the opposite side, there is another mesh pocket that goes across the entire surface. The main compartment can be completely opened with the zipper, allowing for perfect loading and unloading.

Wisport Sparrow 20_6Other features include 3×6 rows of MOLLE on each side, a small velcro field for patches (a patch from Wisport is already included), two compression straps and two storage straps on the front, where a jacket, tripod, or even a skateboard can be stored. Of course, there is a carry handle on the top. On the bottom, there are two rows of MOLLE with six loops. D-rings are attached in front and behind to pass through 25mm straps for a sleeping mat, for example.

Wisport Sparrow 20_8The shoulder straps of the Sparrow are thickly padded and also airy due to the use of mesh. In the shoulder area, there is an elastic loop on each side. A bit further down, there is another non-elastic loop on each side as well. The right one of the two carries the Wisport company logo and is color-contrasted. There is also a chest strap, and what is particularly pleasant here is the use of swivel clips at the ends of the strap. Here, excess strap material or the drinking tube can be fixed. The straps can be quickly opened with Fastex buckles.

Wisport Sparrow 20_2The back panel of the Sparrow is also thickly padded with mesh and divided into 3 sections to allow air to circulate in the spaces. The opening for the drinking tube is centrally located at the top. D-rings are provided again on the right and left for a waist belt, which is not included in the delivery.

The overall impression of the backpack leaves nothing to be desired. 700D Cordura is used as the material – here in RAL7013 (stone gray-olive). 700D Cordura is slightly heavier than 500D Cordura but offers more rigidity and tear resistance. Tatonka and Tasmanian Tiger also use 700D Cordura. The hardware consists of National Molding Fastex buckles and YKK zippers according to the manufacturer's website. This is not visible on the zipper, where a large Wisport logo is embossed. All compression straps have a Velcro band for rolling up excess strap material.

The external dimensions of the Sparrow are approximately 40cm high, 30cm wide, and 20cm deep. Despite its generous equipment, the small EDC weighs only 850g, which is quite impressive.

CONCLUSION: A useful backpack for daily use. Particularly well done are the zipper covers, which not only provide protection but also give a great appearance to the exterior. With good back ventilation and high wearing comfort, the Sparrow is an ideal companion for smaller hiking tours, shopping trips, or as a camera backpack. The Sparrow series also includes a 16-liter and a 30-liter version for those who need more or less volume. The manufacturer provides a five-year warranty on the backpack.

The Sparrow 20 is available in the colors black, coyote, A-Tacs LE/AU/FG, Multicam, olive, and the presented RAL7013. You can get it, for example, at CAMOSTORE.DE for just under 90€.
