REVIEW: VGC New Jerk PC Vest ( AOR1 )

11/09/2013By Redaktion

"New Jerk PC" is the name of the item from the Asian manufacturer VGC, available at J.K. Army. But let's be honest, this is nothing more than a clone of the very exclusive NJPC by Crye Precision, which we are presenting to you here today. Just a bit cheaper than the original. The difference from a normal Jumpable Plate Carrier can be seen at first glance with the additional flaps covering the magazine slots. In the JPC, this is solved with Bungee Cord, while the Navy opted for a more water-resistant solution for their carrier. (All images clickable to enlarge.)

Otherwise, everything is the same as the original: the large magazine pocket flap (left) also serves as the closure for the plate carrier, and the AirLite Cummerbund comes from the right and left and all together is fused in an orgy of velcro. Notice on the surface of the plate carrier the bottom row of MOLLE-shaped velcro, where a hanging pouch can be looped in. At the back, you can see how the Cummerbund can be adjusted in width. It is held in place by a vertical row of MOLLE on the right and left, with a flexible Shock Cord binding in the center.

The shoulder area is well made: VGC uses the same material as Crye, namely Hypalon, which is normally used to produce inflatable boats.

If you want to keep the self-velcroing magazine pouches open, just velcro the flaps in. The material used to build the New Jerk PC is 500D Nylon. The AOR1 pattern seems a bit too bright to us.

The AirLite Cummerbund is very stiff, and here too, the color of the MOLLE fabric is not quite right. However, the stitching is excellent, both on the body of the carrier and on the Cummerbund.

The interior features a slightly bright 4-Way-Stretch and a somewhat rough, black mesh. Here you can see how stiff the Cummerbund has become due to the sewn-in strengthening material. Incidentally, the carrier holds Medium SAPIs.

CONCLUSION: The New Jerk PC by VGC is the mass-market copy of the very rare NJPC by Crye. The color is slightly too bright, and the Cummerbund is a bit too stiff. But that's just nitpicking on a high level: the quality of the stitching is excellent. The price is also very attractive. It's a shame that the copy does not include the attachable MBITR Pouches.

The VGC NEW JERK PC Vest ( AOR1 ) is available at J.K. Army for 145 dollars (excluding shipping).
