Goodbye is a pleasure. The Integrity Base Jacket from VERTX was reviewed here. But the one in the picture is a special design. This version is in Kryptek, here in green Mandrake. There is also an arid Highlander version. Reason enough for us to take a closer look at this jacket.
What is different is the outer layer, which feels quite different from the black Base Jacket. In this case, it is more like a thin softshell treated with Nanosphere. The jacket is not waterproof, but very water-resistant, with a pleasantly rough surface that feels a bit like Sharkskin.
The view from the back holds no surprises. We tested the integrity of the Integrity on a tour at around minus 5 degrees, with a fleece pullover as the base layer. The jacket itself is lined. Our impression is that it is slightly more filled than its black predecessor, but that could be deceiving.
Polartec Powerstretch is incorporated on the sides of the jacket. The brown color is similar to what is seen in PCU underwear. The fabric is stretchy and makes the jacket flexible. The side pockets are warmly lined, ideal for warming the hands.
The high stand-up collar is lined with a fluffy fabric on the inside, very comfortable. It also closes well, so there is no draft from above.
Stretch material is also used at the sleeve ends, so they fit snugly, like a training jacket. Small loops are attachment points for an over jacket that can be taken as a waterproof layer.
Inside, the Integrity Kryptek is lined with a bronze-brown fabric and has a zippered pocket.
CONCLUSION: A great jacket that passes as a light softshell with warm lining. It is extremely comfortable to wear, serves as a warm layer under a waterproof jacket if needed. Otherwise, it also looks very good worn alone (or with a sweater underneath) in chilly weather. Very minimalist, straight cut, and modern design. Kryptek is still rare for us, making the jacket a real eye-catcher.
The VERTX Integrity Base Jacket Kryptek costs $199.95 in the USA (currently available for $99.95). VERTX is represented in Germany by RECON COMPANY.
