REVIEW: UF-PRO Windstopper Lining

12/08/2015By Redaktion

The image on the top right is our winter pants. Next to it is the UF-PRO P40 All Terrain Pants - HERE in the SPARTANAT Review. Today, we will explain what they have in common.

No, these are not chaps in shiny black, that we would wear as our only trousers at particularly indecent parties. Even the clueless gear photographer suggested we should turn them around so that the slit is at the back. But he has no idea: that part on the right belongs inside on the left. UF-PRO has an extremely clever and decently working system to make its pants weatherproof: the Windstopper Lining simply zips in. Sensitivity to temperature is a very private matter: but around zero degrees, you can zip in this inner pants.

The Windstopper Lining is not for hot guys who like to walk through fire: it is made of polyester and plastic does not have the properties of fire-resistant Nomex, but that is not the requirement: the shiny surface takes away the nasty wind chill, the fluffy inside makes your legs nice and warm. Here you can also see the zipper running around the top edge very nicely.

Also, this part is not suitable as a curtain, we just want to show the additional piece of fabric that is breathable at the back of the crotch (top end of the pelvis), so you don't sweat during movement. As always, UF-PRO is extremely clever.

The assembly is as simple as it is uncomplicated: there is a hardly noticeable zipper all around the waist. The counterpart has the Windstopper Lining. Simply zip it in, put your legs in the tubes, and the cold can come. The inner pants have a button at the bottom of the tube, but the pants didn't show any affection for it, there was nothing. But we also didn't notice that the inner pants would "rise" during movement.

CONCLUSION: The problem in the cold season is always how thick to dress. This is where padded overpants and the like come into play, and you can't reach your things stored inside the pants anymore. The UF-PRO Windstopper Lining takes the opposite approach: it upgrades your pants from the inside. Depending on how cold and windy it is, short underwear or long, then zip the Windstopper Lining into the UF-PRO pants, and the wearer is already well-equipped and remains flexible without having to turn into a Michelin man. Not exactly cheap, but an excellent and recommendable addition for all operational pants from UF-PRO. (And because there were questions: it is an efficient Windstopper, not rain pants. When it gets wet, you will then have two wet layers that are best dried separately.)

You can get the UF-PRO Windstopper Lining directly from UF-PRO for 69 euros and at all retailers that carry UF-PRO.
