REVIEW: UF PRO Delta Eagle Gen. 3 Tactical Softshell Jacket

03/15/2023By Redaktion

"Limits are mindset." This is the motto of UF PRO and once again it proves to us that it is possible to overcome limits, to evolve and redefine oneself. The result of this evolution at UF PRO is the Delta Eagle Gen. 3 Tactical Softshell. Those who follow us and remember, know that we have already written about the first Softshell from UF PRO HERE on SPARTANAT.

Now, the newest generation is here. We present to you the UFPRO Delta Eagle Gen. 3 Tactical Softshell in more detail.

The windproof and water-repellent softshell has Nylon Ripstop as its outer material. On the front, there is a well-covered YKK® one-way zipper against wind and rain and two redesigned front pockets. The size of the tested Eagle Softshell is "L". The fit is very good and comfortable for my 183 cm and well-trained 83 kg.

On the back, the seamless processing of the shoulder area and the stand-up collar with a hood inside is visible.

The front pockets are only accessible from one side via a YKK® one-way zipper. The pockets are large enough to hold gloves, maps, etc. The pockets are lined with mesh material.

The two sleeve pockets are excellent for quickly storing smaller equipment that needs to be reachable. They have an inner mesh lining. If it gets too warm under the jacket, the sleeve pockets can also be used for temperature regulation.

There are Velcro areas on the sleeve pockets for attaching patches and ID markings, and there is an integrated compartment for pens, chemlights, flashlight.

The sleeve cuff is closed via adjustable Velcro cuffs. There are no hand gaiters or lower sleeve pockets in this lower area.

Inside, there is only a chest pocket on the left side, also made of mesh material, tag with UF PRO logo, care instructions, and size designation. Closable via a zipper.

In the collar of the Gen. 3, a hood is stowed under pressure buttons for easy access. Reach back and pull it out to put it on.

Voilá. The fully waterproof hood with the integrated Hood/Harness® is exposed. Another innovation here: The hood is made of PA Ripstop fabric laminated on a PU membrane.

The Hood/Harness® System is attached with Velcro in the hood and is also adjustable.

Thanks to this Hood/Harness® System, the hood is comfortable to wear like a cap, even with a hat underneath. This also allows all head movements to be accommodated. The hood stays in place even with a 180-degree all-around view and in strong winds. A wire is integrated at the hood edge for shaping the cap.

The size of the hood can be adjusted via bungee cord. Clearly visible in this image are the pressure buttons mentioned earlier, where the hood is rolled up and stowed underneath. By the way, there used to be a zipper at this spot.

The collar width of the softshell itself can be adjusted via a bungee cord above the hood.

If the hood is no longer needed, simply roll it up and secure it with the pressure buttons in the collar.

The width adjustment of the hem and waist is integrated in the front pockets and is done via bungee cord and pressure buttons.

UF PRO responds to the needs of law enforcement and military by making access to the sidearm easier. The user can access their weapon or equipment via a YKK® two-way zipper and snap button.

The drawstring from the jacket hem is fixed under the weapon holster.

Yes, it can happen that the bungee cord gets caught in the clip of a pocket knife or flashlight. To alleviate the user's discomfort and fear of loss, they can resort to a simple solution.

Cut the bungee cord, tie a knot to the cut end, solder it with a lighter, and voilà, the problem is solved. The functionality for adjusting the hem is in no way compromised.

There are ventilation openings under the arms and on the sides. In this jacket, VISLON® zippers with YKK® sliders are incorporated on the left and right under the arms. This helps regulate heat under the jacket and prevent overheating.

The legendary integrated air/pac® system further insulates the jacket. Thanks to the honeycomb principle, it ensures good ventilation without cold bridges. The space between the wearer's body and the jacket's outer material is filled with air. The shoulder pads are securely integrated and cannot be removed.

The shoulder pads integrated into the UF PRO Delta Eagle Gen. 3 Jacket allow the user to carry heavy backpacks and plate carriers for longer periods of time. Additionally, they prevent the shoulder straps of the backpack or plate carrier from directly contacting the body, which ensures a continuous drying effect.

By using a three-layered and non-welded construction, cold and moisture are kept away from the body. The COCONA® 37.5™ microfleece lining has been separated from the membrane and the bonding has been replaced by an air layer.

On the outside, there is the robust nylon ripstop, followed by the breathable ePTFE-based membrane and then the moisture wicking COCONA® 37.5™ microfleece lining.

Through this innovative approach, the softshell jacket gains significantly better breathability with additional thermal insulation performance and, moreover, weight savings compared to previous models.

CONCLUSION: Sometimes it pays off to innovate and go new ways, to push boundaries. Whether in outdoor activities or in operations. In this case, it was very rewarding. Compared to its predecessor models, this is a great, functional, and practical advancement in softshell jacket technology with great features.

The UF PRO Delta Eagle Gen. 3 Tactical Softshell Jacket is smaller in pack size, significantly lighter, and quieter compared to its predecessors. Those familiar with UF PRO products know that only high-quality materials are used. The jacket convinced us and complements our gear excellently.

The UF PRO Delta Eagle Gen. 3 Tactical Softshell Jacket is available in black, stone grey-olive, navy blue, steel grey, and MultiCam® directly from www.ufpro.com or at specialized retailers. The price for single-color versions is 290 EUR. The MultiCam® version costs 345 EUR.
