Same text: REVIEW: UF PRO Ace Winter Combat Shirt
03/10/2021By SPARTANAT crew

No matter the season, no matter the weather, UF PRO has the perfect clothing for you. Combat shirts for warmer temperatures are plentiful, but for winter, they are rare – we only have one from UF PRO. In this review, we present to you the AcE Winter Combat Shirt.

Let's start with the front. As you can already see, typical of combat shirts, there is only a zip in the upper half.

Side view before delving into the details. The color of the shirt here is Stone Grey-Olive. The size worn is Medium, which is also the size we wear with the normal combat shirts from UF PRO.

The back view is just as important. You can already see some features of the Winter Combat Shirt here.

So let's go back to the front and start with the front zip closure. This one is from YKK and is angled.

It closes smoothly.

And in the chin area, fabric protects against the zip closure. It's not a big deal, but the angled zip closure is definitely justified.

On cold days, you'll want to close this and the angled position makes it more comfortable, especially when wearing a jacket over it.

On the back of the collar, there is a bungee cord to adjust the collar size.

Now, working our way down from the top, we come to the patch area on the upper arms. As typical of UF PRO, there is again a cutout for inserting a pen.

To make it easier to open the upper arm pocket, there is a small tab that can be grasped with the teeth. This makes it easier to move the zipper.

Once opened, the pocket offers a lot of storage space.

The pocket on the forearm has nothing to bite into, but offers space to store small items.

As you may have already noticed in the previous photos, the forearms are equipped with Cordura.

This extends over the entire forearm area, allowing you to crawl on the ground without any worries.

At the end of the jacket, there is a warming finish where the wearer can slip their hands through.

Just like with other models, the Winter Combat Shirt has a cutout for checking the time. The fabric is very comfortable and keeps you warm.

On the front, there is a zipper on the left and right side. However, the pocket in the middle is not divided, so you can access the contents from both sides.

Once worn, this Combat Shirt can be a bit cumbersome to take off because it is a slip-on jacket. To better regulate warmth, there is a double zipper in the armpit area.

This can be opened wide to let some fresh air into the shirt. Air conditioning, so to speak...

Below the armpit zip closure, there is a mesh stretch insert on both sides. This ensures an optimal fit of the shirt.

One thing that immediately stands out when holding the shirt in your hands is that there are sewn-in eight millimeters thick Air/Pac Mesh Inserts on the shoulders and in the back area. These act as a cushion to distribute the weight of the equipment to be carried.

Here you can see the shoulder pads that are inserted.

The back pad. Also fixed in place to prevent sliding.

Here is the label. Now it gets a bit technical, as a variety of fabrics are used again. The outer layer is a two-layer laminate with a 100 percent polyester layer and a PU membrane underneath, making the shirt windproof and water-repellent. The arms contain 80g/m² of G-Loft insulation. Also in the arms is Lining 2 - 130g/m² of a Merino/Polyester blend from Cocona. In the body area is Lining 1, which consists of 180g/m² of polyester, with 45 percent being 37.5 from Cocona.

One might ask why it's so complicated. Well, the arms are meant to be well insulated for warmth. Meanwhile, the body area is usually more insulated by plate carriers and the wearer sweats more on the upper body. This moisture needs to be transported away, hence the different fabrics and insulations. Very cleverly done.

Around 0 degrees, we wear only a functional shirt underneath and are more than satisfied with the warmth provided by the AcE Winter Combat Shirt. During very intense activity, we even need to open the armpit ventilation.

We really enjoyed wearing the AcE Winter Combat Shirt in cold temperatures, and sometimes we even find ourselves crawling through thorny bushes. As a result, we got a small hole. Thanks to RipStop, it didn't tear any further and can be quickly patched up.

Since the Combat Shirt below does not have a zipper, you can simply tuck it into your pants and wear a belt over it. A feature that is often underestimated.

CONCLUSION: Our favorite shirt for the cold season. Comfortable to wear, with top heat performance, combined with UF PRO typical features and high-quality fabrics. If we were to nitpick something, it might be the price, as we would like to get more models of it. And the sleeve length is a tad too long for us personally, but it's not a major issue.

You can get the AcE Winter Combat Shirt HERE directly from UF PRO for 239.50 euros. Also available with the new Multicam fabric, which makes the Hunter FZ Gen 2 Jacket even quieter.
