REVIEW: Toy Soldier Chicken Plate Carrier

11/28/2015By Redaktion

Sometimes size matters… DEVGRU must have thought that too when they introduced a particularly small plate carrier in 2007: the Chicken Plate Carrier - here in the replica by Toy Soldier - is so unique that it even uses its own plates. It has a complete velcro surface in the front.

In the back, there is only a velcro square on the man. If you want to see the original plates, you can check HERE. They are made of steel and Level III. The requirement for the Chicken Plate Carrier was to be as small as possible.

The closure is also minimalist: a side elastic strip keeps everything in place.

This is how it is put on and taken off. The closure is the front velcro surface. By the way, we don't have real plates in our model. Toy Soldier provides Dummy Soft Plates.

Here is the good piece laid out on the ground again, there are not many details that could escape the viewer. The width adjustment is done via the shoulder straps, which are also velcroed.

Toy Soldier offers a solid and qualitatively usable replica, and stands by it. Here is the tag in the Chicken Plate Carrier.

Deployment image of DEVGRU, probably during a training. You can see the difference very well. The man on the right is wearing a 6094 plate carrier, and the one on the left is wearing the Chicken Plate Carrier, with an AOR1 magazine pouch mounted with velcro. No comparison of space and size.

CONCLUSION: A smaller, more versatile plate carrier, which was likely intended as a replacement for the PACA. Initially seen frequently in combination with LBT-1961 Chest Rigs in the DEVGRU Red Team, before LBT introduced its Slick Carrier. The issue is the special plates, which are different in the front and bottom, but keep the wearer mobile due to their small size. However, they also offer less protection, as they do not cover the entire heart-lung area like normal SAPIs, and only provide Level III protection.

You can get the Toy Soldier Chicken Plate Carrier directly from Toy Soldier for 55.92 dollars.
