REVIEW: Templar Assault Systems Operators Rig

06/15/2013By Redaktion

There are classics. And they should remain that way … The Operators Rig from Templar Assault Systems is one of those. It is nothing more than a copy of the Rhodesian Recon Vest (RRV), as also offered by Eagle (HERE, by the way one of our first reviews), LBT and WAS.

TAS Operators Rig_2This is what it looks like on a person. Large area of MOLLE in the front, so that you can attach the pockets you need. A secure harness on the back for a comfortable fit. The straps on top can be worn in an X or H configuration.

TAS Operators Rig_3As mentioned, there is nothing new under the sun. The TAS Operators Rig in action. Unlike other RRVs, it only has MOLLE and no PALS, like the original. A simplification that makes sense, because MOLLE is what matters. In terms of color, the TAS is Khaki, with a color that is significantly lighter than the classic MJK Khaki offered by Eagle.

TAS Operators Rig_4The back is constructed with mesh fabric to allow some airflow. The feature of having a holder for the SAPI plate is omitted, which is present in the Eagle version, for example. But let's be honest, the RRV is a lightweight rig, who would install a SAPI plate there? (And for those who really want to: they could slip the SAPI into the map pocket.)

TAS Operators Rig_5The RRV can be reduced to the lower panel. The admin panel can be detached from the top and then recessed into the body of the RRV. This (map) pocket is then closed with a tab.

CONCLUSION: A solidly crafted RRV without any frills at a friendly price. Not every piece of gear has to be exciting and extremely special: here the wearer has an excellent platform that is classic and functional.

The Temlar Assault Systems Operators Rig is available at CAMOSTORE in Khaki and Green for Euro 69.90 (excluding shipping).
